Persons with disabilities

Around 600,000 people in Ireland–thirteen per cent of the population–have a disability.

Persons with a disability may be at risk in care settings, where too many have suffered significant personal injury due to neglect and breach of duty of care by service providers. Also, people with disabilities face continuing barriers to education, housing, employment, transportation, information and technology.

An estimated fifteen per cent of people with disabilities have experienced discrimination. Colm MacGeehin and Ruadhán Mac Aodháin have acted for a number of campaigning groups, including Autism Action Ireland. We also act for individuals who are at risk of being treated unfavourably compared with their colleagues doing the same job, for example.

At Prospect Law, our services for persons with a disability include:

  • taking personal injury actions for individuals and their families for injuries sustained by them, often while under the care of disability service providers

  • representing individuals and their families who require services or supports in areas such as healthcare and education

  • representing individuals who face discrimination in the workplace

  • providing advice on rights issues for disability advocacy organisations
